Arq 5 Review

|

Haystack Software, a one-man operation with Stefan Reitschamer at the helm, has just released version 5 of Arq, the venerable backup app that lets you micromanage your backups.

It’s an incremental upgrade, but you will want to grab it: It is many times faster (due to multithreading and some smart caching), and gives a bit more feedback about what is going on. Plus, Reitschamer is constantly updating the app and it’s way past due to support him!

Arq is really the way to go because it keeps you in control of your information and gives you the choice of services of storing your backups. Arq 5 license is now per-user rather than per-computer, so you can use it on all of your Macs and PCs!

Admittedly, without proper guidance, Arq is a bit too geeky for normal folk. There are many options and it isn’t going to hold your hand. However, my book-in-progress will have a section on using Arq 5 with Dropbox Pro, and will patiently walk users through the process.
