100 Days of Code Day 5 and 6 - Moodsmitten 1.1, and Getting Organized

|

I didn’t write my post yesterday because I was a bit busy and had friends over last night. I’ll be going out in 15 minutes or so. However, I did get some coding and planning time in.

I’ve Decided on Moodsmitten

After much brainstorming, I’ve decided to focus my time on Moodsmitten 1.1. I’ll implement some of the things I listed in my last post. I spent more time trying to document my code, refactoring, etc. Unfortunately I’m not going to update the open source branch. It’s simply too much to keep it going. But I’m sure you’ll be happy with the things I have planned.

Advanced Swift Book

I’m still going through the objc.io Advanced Swift book. The book focuses extensively on collections and the prototypes to implement them. Like I said before, I’m having a lot of opportunities to apply the concepts.

Getting Organized

I finally have put my foot down and am really committing to getting organized. I’m getting older, so I can’t get away with not recording thoughts and remembering them. Also, when I have tried to plan my life in OmniFocus/[Things]((http://www.culturedcode.com/)/physically, I’ve avoided consulting them.

I’m back on OmniFocus. I appreciate the attention to detail the Omnigroup applies to each of their products. In the past, I’ve overheated projects and hid my tasks to the point that I couldn’t find them. I’m keeping a flat project list. I also set some reminders to consult my tasks and goals each morning.

And then comes my reference material, an organized mess of a nested folder structure. I purchased DevonThink Pro Office when I was a student, but I never figured out how to leverage it to fit my needs. Also, the terrible iOS experience and sync situation was a deterrent.

DevonThink’s new iOS apps are excellent, which has led me to revisit the app. I have all of my programming books, recipes, fun stuff, and my job search documents in separate databases. Unlike other apps of the kind, the sync is rock-solid. I’m looking forward to DevonThink’s AI technology getting smarter as I add more files.
